Optical Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a Production Technician to join our growing optical manufacturing team. This role involves hands-on participation in optical R&D and laser manufacturing equipment innovation,  supporting both product innovation and production scale-up. You will work closely with engineers and researchers specialized in laser nanomanufactuirng, nanomaterials and electromechanics.

Key Responsibilities

Optical Path R&D

  • Assist in the design, alignment, and optimization of optical paths for femtosecond laser processing systems.
  • Support testing and calibration of optical components including lenses, mirrors, beam expanders, and splitters.
  • Document optical setups, experimental parameters, and test results for continuous improvement.

Optical Fabrication & Assembly

  • Operate precision equipment for optical fabrication, fiber handling, and micro-alignment.
  • Conduct trial fabrications to evaluate new parameters and improve process stability and yield.
  • Assemble, inspect, and verify optical modules according to design and quality requirements.

Prototype Design & Structural File Preparation

  • Design and prepare optical and mechanical structural files for new prototypes and system upgrades.
  • Collaborate with R&D engineers to translate optical design concepts into manufacturable components.
  • Participate in prototype testing and performance evaluation.

Process Optimization & Quality Assurance

  • Record and analyse fabrication data to improve repeatability and efficiency.
  • Support development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality inspection methods.
  • Maintain equipment logs, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure cleanroom compliance.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (R&D, mechanical, and electrical) to integrate optical subsystems.
  • Provide regular progress reports and suggest process or design improvements.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Photonics, Mechatronics, or related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on experience in optical system assembly, laser setup, or precision manufacturing preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD/design tools (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and optical simulation software advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail, steady hands, and ability to work in a cleanroom or controlled environment.
